Home builders 'need flexible planning policy'
first-time buyers need the government to define its planning policy to allow greater flexibility in wider home construction.
This is the view of John Slaughter, policy director of the Home Builders Federation, responding to housing minister Grant Shapps, who outlined his plans to create affordable property.
Mr Shapps said: "I believe that it is human nature to aspire to shelter and security - and for the many that means owning the roof over your own head."
However, Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, recently warned political action was also needed to make mortgages available, as the current situation meant construction of new houses had slowed.
With experts calling for greater flexibility of planning policy for home builders and intervention on mortgage availability for first-time buyers from the government, perhaps more people will consider looking for property to rent in the London borough of Greenwich or elsewhere in the country.
