Hammers look to joint council bid for Olympic Stadium
Premier League football club West Ham United has expressed an interest in relocating to the Olympic Stadium after 2012 with the help of the local council.
It hopes that its partnership with Newham Council will secure the arena which will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics.
After criticism from West Ham's two co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan, it appears the pair are accepting a future role for track and field at the site.
Mr Gold had called the post-games legacy a potential white elephant but not only does it appear that athletics will be in its plans comma but West Ham has revealed more details on how the site would take shape.
An Olympic Visitor Centre and football museum would be added to the site and with the redeveloped Olympic Park and a new shopping complex opening nearby, it could turn this part of East London into a popular leisure district.
Organisations have eight weeks to notify the Olympic Park Legacy Company of their interest but its chief executive Andrew Altman was clear about how the stadium must be a "focal point" for the local community.
Should West Ham's joint bid with Newham Council be successful then it could create a collection of leisure facilities and attractions that may encourage people to look for property to rent in the London borough of Newham.
