Half-price travel scheme extended
Half-price bus and tram travel in London has been extended to include a greater number of people living in the capital.
Mayor Boris Johnson recently announced that those receiving Income Support would benefit from reduced fares and this has now been widened to include Londoners on Job Seekers Allowance, as well as the new Employment and Support Allowance.
Around 150,000 more people are expected to be eligible and Mr Johnson explained that it would help them get back into work by enabling them to travel to interviews at a lower cost.
"I want to help the thousands of Londoners who, during these tough times, will find themselves looking for work, by making it easier for them to get around the city," he said.
The changes will come into effect at the beginning of April and follow changes to the Freedom Pass for older residents, which can now be used 24 hours a day.
Transport for London announced this week that it is cracking down on fare evasion, which the body stated costs Londoners £70 million each year.
