Government awards funding for London fire service
Firefighters in London are to receive a share of new funding from the government.
All Fire and Rescue Services in England are being awarded grants, with the capital benefiting most, having been awarded £5.86 million of investment.
Each service can decide how to spend the money and fire minister Sadiq Khan remarked: "This investment for the fire services' estate gives them all the opportunity to upgrade their buildings."
Those living in London could be set to benefit as a result of improved services, while Mr Khan noted that the money may be used to update facilities in order to help spread safety messages in the community.
Last week Mayor Boris Johnson announced that £77 million would be made available to kick-start regeneration schemes that have stalled as a result of the economic downturn.
The funding will be used to tackle overcrowding, as well as ensure improvements to poor quality housing are made.
