Edgware regeneration given green light
A regeneration scheme slated for the North London suburb of Edgware has been given the green light by a local planning committee.
Members of Barnet Council voted eight-to-one to go ahead with the development at the Stonegrove and Spur Road estates, to be carried out by Barratt Homes.
The work will entail tearing down some 603 existing homes before erecting 937 modernised ones in their place, all of which will feature a greater focus on energy efficient building.
Almost half of the properties will also be affordable - intended either for joint ownership schemes or to be rented by low-income families who are already living in the area.
"I am delighted that we can now move ahead with our exciting plans to bring about major improvements in the lives of everyone on the estates," the Hendon Times quoted Councillor Anthony Finn as saying.
He added: "Step by step we are making real progress towards fulfilling our promise of achieving radical improvements for everyone who lives there."
