EPCs 'give tenants chance to decide'
Being shown energy performance certificates (EPCs) gives tenants the opportunity to decide whether or not they want to live in a certain property, it has been suggested.
Malcolm Harrison, a private rented sector expert from Harrison Communications, said that documentation details a home's energy performance and therefore gives and indication of what level utility bills will be.
If a property is old and has large draughty windows, then would-be tenants may decide that bills will be too high for them.
Those looking for property to rent in London such as flats to rent in Islington or Havering may wish to consider these options before signing any tenancy agreements.
"The tenant ought to be able to make their own decision as to whether or not they want what might be extra bills in the coming winter," Mr Harrison explained.
He added that once a tenancy agreement has started there will be no disputes on this matter.
The government recently introduced the Carbon Reduction Commitment, which is a UK-wide that aims to promote energy efficiency and the importance of reducing carbon emissions.
