DfT invites Crossrail bids
The Crossrail project has taken a step closer to completion, with project managers being invited to bid to oversee work.
Rail minister Andrew Adonis announced that the invitation has been issued by the Department for Transport (DfT), with the successful applicant set to become project representative.
They will be responsible for ensuring that scheme - the largest of its kind in Europe - is constructed on time and within the budget that has been set.
According to Lord Adonis, the project will create 200 million jobs and bring at least £20 billion to the UK economy.
"When Crossrail is completed it will provide passengers with 24 trains per hour in both directions through Central London at peak times, increasing the capital's rail capacity by 10 per cent," he said.
Earlier this month it was revealed that £350 million of funding could be made available for the scheme, following an agreement between the DfT and other bodies.
