Debate over property in Vauxhall
South London councils are embroiled in a debate about a proposed new property and commercial site next to Vauxhall station.
The so-called Bondway site will be 42 storeys high if planning permission is granted to developers London & Regional, but Wandsworth Council is calling on Lambeth Council to seek more money for transport improvements from the firm.
If councillors in Lambeth are going to accept the building proposal then there needs to be more investment put into the local area by the developers, Wandsworth's planning chairman Leslie McDonnell claimed.
Meetings between the mayor and those involved in the plans have resulted in the applicant expecting to spend £790,000 for the transport interchange and £488,000 for Crossrail.
"[The site] needs more than extra facilities at Vauxhall station," said Mr McDonnell. "The whole transport infrastructure in this area needs to be looked at including the potential for contributions to a Northern Line extension."
Vauxhall station is on the Victoria Line of the Tube and tenants of property to rent in Vauxhall are just two stops away from Victoria and seven away from King's Cross.
