Could time be running out for tenants to use boiler scrappage?
Tenants hoping to achieve lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions by taking part in the boiler scrappage scheme may wish to get their skates on, as demand is proving high.
The Department for Energy and Climate Change has revealed that just over a month after the government launched the scheme, almost 55,000 money-saving vouchers have already been snapped up.
However, 70,000 of the vouchers are still up for grabs for tenants and homeowners who qualify for the programme.
People living in rented property can apply to the Energy Saving Trust for £400 off the cost of a condensing boiler if their current central heating system is powered by an older boiler with a G energy rating.
And those looking for flats to rent in Blackheath or another part of London may be pleased to hear they do not have to wait for their landlord to apply, but can take action themselves.
Energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband said: "The boiler scrappage scheme has proved incredibly popular and with energy companies and manufacturers offering deals as well, the government scheme has truly kick-started a national programme of boiler replacement."
