Could tenants benefit from boiler scrappage growth?
The boiler scrappage scheme currently in force in the UK should be extended to allow more households to take part, one sector commentator has claimed.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change recently announced that just over one month since the campaign was launched, over 40 per cent of the money saving vouchers have already been secured by residents quick to snap them up.
As a result, there are now 70,000 vouchers left for homeowners and rental tenants who live in a property with a G-rated boiler to apply for.
However, Gordon Miller, founder of whatgreenhome.com, said the scheme should be extended to encompass boilers which fall into a B to F rating as well, as, although this will be more expensive, it could also do more to reduce carbon emissions.
"It is now an equation for the government to do; how much it is going to cost them versus how much saving they are going to make. I imagine it would be equally as popular if you were to include the other rated boilers as well," he explained.
Britons looking for flats to rent in Kensington or another part of London may wish to ask their potential landlord the age of the property's boiler, as they might be able to benefit from the scrappage scheme.
