City of Westminster residents to see station upgrades
Work is set to begin on one of the biggest station redevelopments ever undertaken in Central London.
Transport for London (TFL) has stated that Tottenham Court Road station, in the City of Westminster, will be significantly improved by the construction.
The first stage will begin this weekend, as preparations are made for its demolition.
As part of plans for the Crossrail project, £1 billion has been provided to upgrade the station and increase its capacity.
Once complete, it will include a Tube ticket hall six times larger than the existing one, as well as new entrances.
"By 2017, Tottenham Court Road station will be one of the most important stations in the West End serving both London Underground and Crossrail," said London Underground director of strategy and service development Richard Parry.
Last month TFL revealed that a Crossrail station is to be built at Canary Wharf, with work due to begin early this year.
