City Airport boost for Newham borough
The London borough of Newham could be set for a massive economic boost with the news of expansion to City Airport.
The East London airport has been given the go ahead by the mayor to increase its number of flights by up to 50 per cent.
Expansion to the airport would provide even better links to Europe, giving frequent flyers a good reason to live in Newham.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "I strongly recognise and appreciate the contribution City Airport makes to London's world city status, and the benefits the airport offers to the City and Canary Wharf.
"I also recognise and support the economic contribution and the employment opportunities it provides for Newham residents."
Newham has also been ear-marked by the Olympic Committee for a large amount of regeneration, including the £9 billion Thames Gateway Project, which will create 225,000 new jobs and 160,000 new homes in the area.
