Cash boost for expectant Londoners
Pregnant Londoners are being urged to make applications for new cash payouts from the government if their babies are due after April 6th.
The Inland Revenue has said mothers-to be-in Greater London should apply now for the Health In Pregnancy Grant.
Money from the one-off grant is intended to help mums to meet costs and stay fit as the birth approaches.
Financial secretary to the Treasury Stephen Timms said: "It's very easy to make a claim and pregnant women can spend the cash on whatever they like, including fresh fruit and vegetables, nappies or even a pram or baby bath."
Such a benefit may come as a particular boost to pregnant women living in a London flat or house.
Earlier this month the London mayor's office launched a campaign of information for pensioners about their eligibility for benefits, called Know Your Rights.
The scheme is backed by charities such as Age Concern and Citizens Advice.
