Brits to face 'biggest-ever energy bills'
This winter the UK experienced its coldest weather in some 30 years and the energy bills covering this period are likely to reflect that in price.
Indeed, according to moneysupermarket.com, Britons receiving their winter bill for utilities over the coming weeks are likely to find it is the highest it has ever been.
The price comparison site warns energy bills are up 20 per cent year-on-year, while since 2003 they have increased 127 per cent.
This means the winter energy bill for an average UK household now stands £104 higher than it did 12 months ago - taking it from £512 to £616.
With this in mind, Britons may wish to choose flats to rent in Kensington or another part of the capital.
Choosing property to rent in London rather than buying a home - where house prices tend to be far higher than elsewhere in the UK - could see consumers better able to fork out for their winter energy bills as they will be saving money by not paying for a mortgage.
Scott Byrom, utilities manager at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Many people will be getting a hefty quarterly statement landing on their doormat at anytime, that's if they haven't already received this nasty surprise. This bill is likely to be the biggest winter energy bill they've ever had to pay."
