Brentford to benefit from new stadium
The West London suburb of Brentford is expected to benefit from the construction of a brand new stadium to replace Griffin Park.
Development partner Barratt Homes has formally agreed a deal to buy the current Lionel Road site and is now expected to draw up plans for a state-of-the-art, multi-million pound stadium nearby.
Griffin Park will be demolished in order to make way for hundreds of new homes.
The League Two team has been considering moving since 2002 and reportedly wants the new site to seat up to 20,000 fans - helping to attract more supporters from surrounding areas in the borough of Hounslow.
London Development Agency deputy chief executive Sarah Ebanja said that the regeneration would have a positive impact on the football club and the wider community.
"The improvements it can potentially generate to the benefit of local residents and entrepreneurs is impressive," thisislocalondon.co.uk reported Ms Ebanja as saying.
