Bloomsbury to be made friendlier
A new plan to make Bloomsbury friendlier for walkers and cyclists has been approved by Camden Council.
The £6.3 million redevelopment will see measures introduced such as the creation of new tree-lined public squares, places for public art, wider pavements for pedestrians and new safe areas for cyclists.
Known as the Bloomsbury Corridor Project, the area covered will include locations such as Russell Square, Woburn Place, Tavistock Square and Southampton Row.
Camden Council's executive member for the environment Chris Knight said: "We have carried out a great deal of consultation with residents and businesses on these plans and have been delighted with the high level of support we have received."
Such enhancements may help make Camden a more attractive place to live and rent in.
Yesterday London Councils announced that it has given the borough an award for the best London campaign for its 'Smokefree Camden' initiative, which it has carried out in conjunction with Camden Primary Care Trust to highlight the benefits of the smoking ban and reduce smoking-related litter.
