Blears announces new regeneration framework
Both people and places must provide the focus for regeneration in cities across the UK, according to secretary of state for local communities and government Hazel Blears.
Any framework for the development of areas such as London should be driven by local requirements and opportunities, she said.
New property in Lambeth is part of a regeneration scheme for the Clapham Park area of the borough currently being planned by the mayor of the capital city and the Homes and Communities Agency London Board.
In a speech for the British Urban Regeneration Association, Ms Blears remarked: "Over the last ten years we have shown we can make a difference with many areas turned around because of the commitment we have shown and record investment we have made."
She added that the aim of regeneration is to reverse economic, social, and physical decline, which is now more challenging and increasingly important.
