Barbados Olympians 'considering Wandsworth for training'
People living in property to rent in Wandsworth may soon see Olympic athletes from Barbados training in their midst.
The Richmond and Twickenham Times reported that the country's national Olympics committee paid a visit to the London area to inspect training facilities.
Wandsworth's "excellent sporting facilities" have been approved as options for a pre-Olympics training camp - including specialist sport facility Ernest Bevin College, the Barn Elms Sports Centre, Battersea Park's Millennium Arena, the Battersea Youth Sport Centre and the Tooting Bec athletics track.
Council executive member for environment and leisure Sarah McDermott said the borough could receive "great economic and cultural benefit" thanks to training athletes staying in the community.
She said: "With the range and quality of the sporting facilities we have in this borough, we are very confident that we can attract an ambitious and high-achieving team."
The 2012 Olympic Games will begin in London on July 27th and will run through to August 12th.
