Authorities aid residents of flats to rent in Harrow
Residents of property to rent in Harrow, North London can be assured that the local council is doing its utmost to ensure their living conditions are up to standard.
Councillor Marilyn Ashton, responsible for planning at Harrow Council, told the Harrow Observer that the local government has a responsibility to make sure people in this country's basic rights are met.
Her comments come after the council found that a landlord in Edgware had not been providing adequate facilities for his tenants.
Small box rooms in poor condition were being rented out at a cost of up to £1,000 a month - but legal action is now being taken against the property owner in question.
"The people made homeless from these raids are now in proper and modern accommodation, where they should have been in the first place," Ms Ashton explained. "It is only a pity they first fell prey to those who put profit over human dignity."
New regulations scheduled to be brought in by the Communities and Local Government department in the near future have been devised to limit events like this happening again.
