Arla suggests moves to boost private rented sector
Those living in property to rent in Barnet or flats to rent in Tower Hamlets could be among the beneficiaries of landlords being exempt from some forms of property tax, it would seem.
People in rented property in these areas and other parts of London and the UK would be well served by landlord tax relief, according to the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA).
By reducing tax for landlords, the association claimed, customers will be able to benefit from better maintained properties.
This comes after ARLA research found that 61 per cent of landlords would make modifications to the homes they own if they did not have to pay so much property tax.
Operations manager at ARLA Ian Potter explained: "The costs of improving stock are often intimidating, especially when meeting decent homes standards and energy-efficiency targets."
Last month, both ARLA and the National Landlords Association announced they would be making moves to ensure the private rented sector becomes even better in the coming months.
