Arla calls for rogue landlord crackdown
The government should work harder to stamp out rogue Letting Agents and landlords in the private rented sector, it has been suggested.
Ian Potter, operations manager at the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), has indicated that more needs to be done to protect tenants and law-abiding landlords in the industry.
Changes should be made to uncover any unscrupulous property industry workers, he added.
"We estimate that around half of Letting Agents still do not belong to a professional body," Mr Potter explained. "This poses a risk to new landlords as well as tenants."
Due to its national focus, ARLA's requests would be of benefit to people in flats to rent in Whitechapel, property to rent in Harrow and residences across London and the UK.
The Communities and Local Government department recently proposed that there should be a landlord register to monitor the UK's private rented sector, but the plans have not been widely welcomed by the industry.
