Anti-social behaviour crackdown to benefit residents of property in Stratford
Plans to improve life for residents of property in Stratford have been announced by Newham Council.
The local authority is intending to reduce anti-social behaviour and violence fuelled by alcohol by establishing a controlled drinking zone.
Applying to Stratford town centre and the Woodgrange Road area of Forest Gate, the move will see police given power to confiscate drink from those causing a nuisance, even if it is unopened.
Following a vote that approved the measure, mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales noted that 86 per cent of residents who were consulted agreed with it.
"We hope this approach will help residents feel safer when they are out on the streets, especially those who have been affected by this sort of foul behaviour in the past," he said.
The local authority recently froze its council tax charges, a move designed to help those choosing flats to rent in Stratford and other residents of Newham through the economic downturn.
