Transport strategy published by Camden council
A strategy to improve the air quality and safety in the London borough of Camden has been published.
Camden Council's Green Transport Strategy will remain in place until 2012 and involves reducing the amount of road congestion in the area.
Measures to be implemented include car clubs, a cycle hire scheme, increasing the number of facilities for charging electric vehicles and improved walking links.
Furthermore, support will be provided to schools in Camden to help them develop their own travel plans that will reduce the number of parents making school runs in cars.
Camden Council's executive member for environment councillor Chris Knight stated that the project includes a "variety of exciting initiatives".
"The planning and development of transport in Camden is extremely important with road traffic currently the biggest source of air pollution in London," he said.
Meanwhile, Transport for London's latest report stated that residents in London are benefiting from reduced carbon emissions due to some of the body's projects.
