Tourism campaign receives funding boost
A boost in funding for tourism efforts has been announced by London mayor Boris Johnson.
The Only in London campaign to promote the capital to other places in the UK and abroad was unveiled last month, with £2 million being provided.
And Mr Johnson revealed that four boroughs are now making an additional £400,000 available, in order to help stimulate the economy.
The news could be of benefit to those working in the tourism sector who live in flats to rent in St Johns Wood, as the scheme is expected to generate £60 million.
"With all this hard work and investment London is weathering the downturn well, resulting in a two per cent increase last year in UK and overseas visitors," said the mayor.
The four boroughs making the contribution are the City of London, Camden, Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea.
Dee Doocey, a member of the London Assembly, recently suggested that a further boost to tourism will be provided by the 2012 Olympics.
