River travel 'to be made easier' for residents of property in London
Plans to integrate the Thames river into London's transport system have been announced.
Mayor Boris Johnson revealed that a number of bodies, including Transport for London and all boroughs that front the river, have agreed to the measures.
The deal will see Thames Clipper services accept Oyster cards from later this year, which could make it easier for those who choose flats to rent in Bethnal Green and elsewhere to travel around the capital.
Operators are also to provide better information to residents and tourists, in order to help them identify faster and more leisurely options.
Mr Johnson explained that the Thames is set to play a part in transport arrangements for the 2012 Olympics, stating: "When the world comes to London I want visitors to be able to glory in the beauty of our great waterway."
Last month, the government revealed that Crossrail services may be extended to the Thames Gateway area.
