Londoners 'should prepare allotments for winter'
As the winter approaches, Londoners have been advised that now is the time to prepare their allotments for the cold weather.
Writing for The Telegraph, Helen Yemm notes that such outdoor spaces may be beginning to look past their spring and summer peak, although there is still plenty that can be done to prepare them for when it is time to plant again.
This includes clearing out the shed, coming up with a plan for the vegetable patch and planting produce such as red onions, garlic and broad beans.
"I am setting about my plot with a vengeance, mainly in the best gardening hours, either at first light or just before dusk, having discovered, along with some of the old guard, that the leaden clay soil is in perfect condition now, just moist enough to turn with a spade with ease," Ms Yemm stated.
People looking for flats to rent in Hammersmith or another part of London may wish to enquire about the availability of nearby allotments if they wish to grow their own produce.
