Landlords improving their properties?
Those looking for property to rent in Bethnal Green, flats to rent in Shoreditch or houses in other parts of the UK may be set to benefit from an improved choice of residences, it would seem.
Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council, has speculated that landlords may be spending more money on making their properties more attractive to would-be renters.
His comments come after Sainsbury's Home Insurance released a survey showing that spending on property structural changes is set to grow £5,369 year-on-year over the next 12 months.
Whereas the average sum spent on such projects last year by British households was £17,361, the research indicated that the average home is set to shell out £22,730 on structural development in the coming year.
Mr Leech commented: "I wonder if this [reported figure] also includes private landlords who are doing extensions on the back of rented properties to get a bit more room and a bit more space so they can charge more rent."
