Free weekend parking for residents of flats to rent in Bethnal Green
Residents of one London borough are being offered the chance to take advantage of free parking at weekends.
Those living in flats to rent in Bethnal Green and across Tower Hamlets are set to benefit as a result of a local authority initiative.
Lead member for Cleaner, Safer, Greener at Tower Hamlets Council Abdal Ullah explained that the measure is designed to provide a boost to shoppers as well as businesses.
"The pay and display machines will be turned off so they physically won't accept money," he said, adding: "We wanted to do all we could to increase footfall and trade in the borough."
Parking will be free for up to two hours on Saturdays and Sundays, with the offer beginning on April 18th.
In addition, parking permit charges have been frozen for those living in property in Tower Hamlets.
Last month, the council announced that residents are being offered free swimming on Fridays in a bid to promote more active lifestyles.
