Children living in property in London targeted by sporting campaign
A new campaign has been unveiled, with the aim of getting more children in London involved in sport.
Mayor Boris Johnson and sports commissioner Kate Hoey revealed that more than £30 million is to be invested by 2012, through the A Sporting Future For London initiative.
Youngsters living in property in Greenwich and across the capital are set to benefit from targets including the provision of street athletics in every borough, as well as boxing academies and mobile swimming pools.
Mr Johnson explained that he intends for the 2012 Olympics to have a "lasting legacy" beyond the regeneration it will bring.
"This is a once in a lifetime chance to increase sport participation and activity, tackle social and health inequalities and bring the capital's communities together under the same vision," he said.
Those living in flats to rent in Bethnal Green are already benefiting from increased access to sporting activities, as Tower Hamlets Council recently announced an offer for free swimming in the borough on Fridays.
