Campaign 'provides support' to London workers
Over 4,500 Londoners have benefited as a result of efforts to inform people about their rights as employees, the government has revealed.
Business secretary Peter Mandelson launched the It's Your Call campaign to highlight the national minimum wage and 2,769 people attended a roadshow in Hackney.
In addition, 1,737 people turned out for an event in Willesden, in the London borough of Brent, as employers were also encouraged to be aware of their responsibilities.
Minister for London Tony McNulty noted that the latest increase to the minimum wage has benefited 87,000 people in the capital, with millions across the UK having been helped since it was introduced ten years ago.
"This campaign gave some of the most vulnerable workers in London the face-to-face advice and support they needed, helping them to take action where necessary," he remarked.
Earlier this week, Mayor Boris Johnson outlined the benefits of the capital to foreign businesses, in a bid to encourage them to relocate.
