Ambassador for young people to target crime and violence
A reduction in youth crime has been targeted by London mayor Boris Johnson through his appointment of a new ambassador for young people in the capital.
James Cleverly, assembly member for Bexley and Bromley, had been given the role and charged with addressing the issues of violence and crime among youngsters.
Mr Johnson explained that aim is to promote a "more meaningful and positive alternative" to gangs and criminal activity, a measure that could see the quality of life improved for those living in London.
And Mr Cleverly stated that he would be co-ordinating with the police and a range of agencies in order to maximise the work that is already being done.
"I am passionate about working with young people and addressing the issues which impact on their everyday lives and their life chances," he said.
This week tool and equipment hire company HSS Hire announced that it would be providing free developmental training courses in order to help young people in Tower Hamlets find a job.
