Area Comments

Brilliant commuter land, a containing some of the most desirable and sought after properties in the Bexley area, with a wealth of school and greenery around it, Sidcup sits astride the A20 and gives excellent access to the coast and up into London.

Bordering places like Eltham, Bexley, Blackfen and Foots Cray, to a great extent Sidcup is an archetypical early 20th Century suburb. Though mostly developed during the 1930s, however, Sidcup is much older than that, cohering as an urban district from mainly farmland belonging to great estates in 1908; however it remains a fundamentally 1920s-30s development.

Sidcup has a great little town centre, with plenty of restaurants and some very good local pubs. It has great open spaces (the remnants of the estates from which it was originally formed) and the excellent schools that typify the area. Shopping is mostly done in large supermarkets nearby but there are also good local stores for necessities, and little local cafes. More varied shopping is easily had in Bexley or Chislehurst nearby.

Sidcup's properties are a very good mixture - there are some very large Edwardian homes, both detached and semidetached; a lot of these have really excellent gardens. There are similarly desirable Victorian homes both in detached and semi form as well. There are some conversions but not many in Sidcup proper - mostly, this is a place of houses. Around the A20, there are smaller houses, most dating from the midwar period. These are excellent choices for smaller families or first timers. But everywhere in Sidcup, around the A20 or no, is desirable. The most affluent houses are found in the Blackfen area, where some truly intimidating homes are to be seen.

Sidcup, because its boundaries stretch out, provides a wide range of prices as well as styles and builds. It's great for living solutions for most people, whether you're a single professional looking for easy access to the city, a couple interested in space, or a family needing to grow.
