Area Comments

Londoners love blending city and rural if they can help it, and Mill Hill is another solution to this in the north of the city.

Split into several smaller areas - Mill Hill Village, Broadway, Mill Hill East, Partindale and The Hale - it's easy to find excellent family property within a cough of open space but with plenty of shopping and amenities close by. The area inspires loyalty - the locals call themselves Millhilleans and are proud of it - and if you choose to look for property here it's easy to see why families especially love the area.

The Broadway strives for a kind of urban village feel (again, very London) - it's got good bars and little boutique stores and delis, whilst the Village has fine country-style pubs for eating and drinking. A little shopping centre completes the feeling of being completely outside London, yet you're within a few minutes' drive of the start of the M1.

Quiet, green, Mill Hill has parks everywhere. Mill Hill Park itself has excellent walks, and the beautiful Arrandene takes the walker all the way up to Totteridge and beyond. There are hills that afford a lovely view out towards St Albans as well as back into the city. The local schools have a high repute and good results (a key family factor).

Houses here are often large with excellent gardens. They tend to be of a midwar period, although there are some lovely Edwardian properties, along wide and leafy suburban streets that line the major routes. Both detached and semis are found here, many with offstreet parking. As more and more professionals find places in the north such as Mill Hill a preferable option with its space and budgets, there are some very good apartment blocks that have appeared in the last few years to cater to those looking to live a little further out, but who value what they get in return far more than the cachet of living close to the city.
