Area Comments
Fantastic access into the city, with a real community buzz, Harlesden is one of the best places to look for a great deal in the northwest of London.
It's the community spirit which is most noticeable in Harlesden compared to other areas. It's a rich mix of peoples and cultures, and of course this is seen in the character of local stores, bakeries, and cafes. This is a place of Brazilian, Irish and Afro-Caribbean cultures above all, and it's a heady, exciting mix of people, and the feel of the area is friendly, bustling. The area is only a short distance from Queens Park, as well as Willesden and Kensal Green with its amazing cemetery.
Shopping in Harlesden is still developing, but it's easy to get to Wembley, Acton or Shepherd's Bush if you want more - although many choose to use the excellent transport to get into town for shopping or for a night out.
Housing here is mostly in the form of Victorian terraces. These spiral out from the main roads and its train station, and develop into interesting little culs-de-sac and nice, close streets. Properties tend to have smallish, but well maintained gardens. Harlesden is known for its excellent prices, which of course have gone up in recent years; still, to buy a house so close to the centre of town for the prices available in Harlesden should be of interest to anyone looking to trade up into a house for the price they'd pay for flats in many parts of town.
