Area Comments

If you're looking for areas of Southwest London that are still relatively untapped and offering great places to live for excellent value, then Earlsfield is worth a look.

The area sits astride the tiny River Wandle as it wends its way south from Wandsworth, and is slightly in the shadow of the former, as well as Clapham and Battersea, which are longstanding favourites. But this slight lack of attention means that the properties here - which compete easily with the best you'll find in the surrounding areas - can be much more affordable.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces abound, and families who don't want to pay some of the steep prices seen in more fashionable areas have come here in order to grab one of these fine properties. There are plenty of maisonettes as well as lots of ex-council properties which are well worth a view. Of course quite a few properties have been subdivided, affording good-sized apartments for the young couple or single professional - but in general this is a great place to seize an ample terraced house for very reasonable amounts.

Though Earlsfield has great amenities in terms of its access to green spaces - Wandsworth Common and King George's Park bookend the area - its main attraction is price and space. Eating and drinking at good restaurants, pubs and bars is easily found, after all, in Wandsworth or Battersea or Clapham, and the rich variety of these three areas allows those living here to cherry pick the best of their huge range of cuisines, pubs and other venues. Shopping is also best done in one of the three busier areas - Earlsfied has its own local stores but most shop outside the area. Of course, this brings a great deal of quiet and calm to the wide and tree-lined streets of Earlsfield, which is what most of the families who live here are looking for.
