Area Comments

Access, affordability and space are the watchwords of Borehamwood. This small town blends London and the Shires nicely, and property here provides excellent living space at costs that don't frighten.

In the last few years Borehamwood has been revitalised after a fallow period. In its heyday, the area was well known as the British Hollywood, with its streets playing their part in countless scenes in British movies, as the town was the site of several major film studios. Whilst there is still an element of this, mostly Borehamwood is a commuter town for London. Its proximity to the capital in distance and time is a huge selling point, especially given the good value of the properties.

Semidetached properties form the backbone of Borehamwood's housing, and its typical roads - Shenley Road, Furzhill Road and others in the south of the town - provide excellent properties at very good prices. Many houses have substantial gardens and large numbers of rooms at very reasonable prices. New townhouses and apartments are also to be found.

Living in Borehamwood a few years ago - before the revitalisation of the town enter - might have seemed a bit faded; but investment in the town centre has brought new bars, restaurants and other facilities that mirror the fact that more and more, those who don't want to pay stiff London prices are looking north.

Fantastic countryside lies all around, as Hertfordshire loses its 'London-ness' and spreads out north - making spring and summer a rich experience for families and kids. The traffic, certainly for anyone used to London, is light and calm. Shopping and leisure are also receiving a boost, and large supermarkets and chains vie with great libraries, pools and leisure centres for your attention.

Borehamwood might not be the Hollywood of Hertfordshire any more, but it's a genuine gem of a location for anyone looking to beat the bank and find a great place to live.
